Steve Anderson

Managing Director, Head of Workplace Financial Services

Steve Anderson leads Workplace Financial Services and also serves on Charles Schwab’s Executive Council.

In his role, Anderson is responsible for three businesses supporting employers and their employees: Schwab Retirement Plan Services, which administers 401(k), defined benefit, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans; Schwab Stock Plan Services, which offers a range of equity compensation and employee stock purchase plans; and Schwab Designated Brokerage Services, which provides trade monitoring services. Collectively, these businesses serve 6,100 workplace plans representing nearly $600 billion in client assets and approximately 3.2 million individual participant accounts. 

Prior to his current role, Anderson was responsible for developing investing and banking solutions for affluent retail investors and end clients of independent registered investment advisors. Previously, he was head of Schwab Retirement Plan Services and also managed various business units in Schwab Investor Services, where he was responsible for the sales, service, and investment advice efforts of Schwab’s retail branch network, with more than 325 U.S. locations as well as international offices. Before joining Schwab in 1999, Anderson provided insurance planning for businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Anderson has been in the financial services industry for more than 40 years and has extensive management, sales, and client service experience. 

Anderson has served in many community leadership positions including director for a community hospital board, a hospital foundation, a hospice organization, and a city school foundation. He was formerly on the Board of Directors of the Charles Schwab Foundation and served as Director on the Miami University Foundation Board, including serving as Chair. He is currently serving as a Trustee on the Miami University Board of Trustees. 

He is a graduate of Miami University and has completed the Harvard Business School General Management Program.
