Blair, my Schwab story

The month of May is dedicated to honoring Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage.  As part of the celebration of those communities, we had the chance to sit down with Schwab Westlake’s Blair Yu and ask her four questions.  Meet Blair!

Question: Blair, it’s great to meet you. Tell us about yourself?

Blair: Nice to meet you, too.  I have been at Schwab for nearly three years.  I work in risk analytics and am based in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.  I was born and raised in Qingdao, China and first came to the United States when I was 18.  I attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where I majored in financial mathematics and economics.

Question: That’s a very impressive story.  How did you find Schwab?

Blair: I originally moved to Texas to join another firm but found Schwab when I arrived. I love the wide-open spaces in Texas, and I love working here at Schwab.  My current work is supporting specialists and subject matter experts to with financial risk oversight functionality and complying with regulatory requirements.  It’s a dynamic and interesting job and there’s always something new to learn.  I have found Schwab to be a very engaging and supportive place to work.

Question: Tell us about what you do away from work?

Blair: I am married and have a little girl, so she keeps me very busy.  I like to cook, but I don’t think I’m very good at it!  I also enjoy outdoor activities like tennis, biking and hiking and I also enjoy watching films from around the world.

Question: What does Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage month mean to you?

Blair:  As an Asian immigrant, this special month reminds me of the contributions and impact Asians have made in this country’s history – whether that’s in culture, achievement, or development. I also appreciate the acknowledgement of our histories and culture as it helps to shape my child’s perspectives of heritage and identity.
