HBCU Alumna Turned First-Time Pandemic Parent

February 2, 2021
Schwabbie Rasheeda shares her thoughts as a pandemic parent and as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) alumna.

When Rasheeda’s son is old enough, his mom will tell him stories of what it was like to become a first-time parent just weeks before the beginning of a once-in-a-century pandemic.

“My son Marley was born February 26, 2020,” remarks Rasheeda, “Just before the whole country locked down because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Being a first-time mom during this crisis has been challenging, but it has also been a blessing because I have had so much time with my young son. And I’m also grateful that Schwab has been so supportive as I’ve navigated this new normal.”

Rasheeda has worked in Global Compliance Testing out of Schwab’s Wilmington, Delaware office for more than eight years, where her work focuses on trust products, testing, compliance regulations and requirements. Rasheeda says she’s found her professional home at Schwab.

“One of the things I really like about Schwab is that I have a voice here. Schwab is an ethical company and we make ethical decisions.”

Rasheeda says she is also inspired by the firm’s commitment to community service.

“I organized the volunteer team in our office here in Wilmington,” says Rasheeda. “It’s important to me and my colleagues that we support our community. One of my favorite memories volunteering with Schwab is when our leader, Paul Woolway, came and participated in a volunteer event with us. That was meaningful to me.”

From West Philadelphia, born and raised, Rasheeda is also a proud alumna of Lincoln University, the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University.

“I hold a degree in Accounting from Lincoln and I earned an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University,” says Rasheeda. “But my time at Lincoln, and it’s place in our country’s history, hold a very special place in my heart.”

When not working, being a mom and volunteering, Rasheeda also enjoys traveling, listening to audio books, and connecting with colleagues as members of Schwab’s Parents Network (SPAN) and Black Professionals at Charles Schwab (BPACS).
