Building our Pipeline of New Talent

While the U.S. unemployment rate is still hovering around 9%, we are actively hiring at Schwab.  We’re looking for new talent across a variety of functions and locations, but in particular we’re seeking experienced Financial Consultants for many of our 300+ branches across the U.S.

What exactly is a Financial Consultant?  “FCs,” as we call them in Schwab-ese, are full-time dual employees of both Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. (the broker dealer) and Charles Schwab Bank, who work in a Schwab branch, providing in-person financial guidance and advice to clients. They embrace Schwab’s philosophy that the best consumer is a knowledgeable one. FCs help people of all ages with the financial aspects of their lives, including retirement planning; college planning; charitable giving; active- as well as long-term investing; cash management; saving and borrowing.  

Our FCs are assigned an existing practice of Schwab clients and are charged with deepening these relationships and expanding their practice through client referrals, marketing events and proactive outreach to prospects. FCs at Schwab get ongoing training, as well as daily access to an internal network of subject matter and product experts in areas such as market insight and financial planning; equity and fixed income research, options and active trading, portfolio management, and global investing—to name just a few.

Also of note:  FCs at Schwab strive to deliver product and service solutions that are truly focused on individual clients’ needs, and their training and compensation reflect this objective.

What do we look for in an FC candidate?

  • A commitment to Schwab’s corporate purpose of helping everyone become financially fit
  • FINRA Series 7 & 63 securities registrations
  • Minimum of three years’ successful sales experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong industry and market knowledge
  • Excellent consultative, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven success in developing and managing client relationships
  • Knowledge of client management software and basic computer skills
  • We also love it when FC candidates have their CFP™ credential. Many of our FCs do, or are in the process of working toward it.
